It seems as if social media has become one big personality test the past few days. Please don’t misunderstand that statement as a criticism (I was a Harmony-seeking Idealist myself). It just made me very aware of how we all want to be known.
When Ryan and I began dating, one of the first things he said to me was “I want to know you. I want to know your dreams, how many kids you want,” etc. Well, if I hadn’t already been head over heels for him by then, that certainly did it. (And if you know Ryan, that wasn’t some kind of cheesy pick-up line.)
I think we all have a deep desire for people to truly know us. Inside and out. Many times, I think others see us more clearly than we see ourselves. On the other hand, we can all be great pretenders, can’t we?
Luckily, there is One who truly, deeply, and fiercely knows us. Knows us better than a personality test. Knows us better than our friends and family. Knows us better than we know ourselves. Knows us before we even make an entrance into this world.
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…” Jeremiah 1:5 (NASB)
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 (NIV)
“I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” Psalm 139:14 (NASB)
So, rest assured today, that whether you’re introverted, extroverted, logical, spontaneous, or otherwise,
you are known.
